The Mathews Family is preparing to move full-time on the missions field
as missionaries! They are excited about the opportunity to go and share
the Gospel of Jesus Christ to those who may not have heard it. The family
consists of Dad (Vincent) Mom (Sharon) and 6 children. Let us tell you a
bit about them.
Vincent
is an ordained elder at the All Nation Church of God In Christ, in Port
Huron, MI. He works currently as a school administrator at the Detroit Lions
Academy, which is an alternative middle school. He graduated from Wayne
State University earning a B.A. in Political Science, the University of
Illinois with a M.A. in African Studies/Political Science and presently
a doctoral candidate at Christian Leadership University. Sharon is very
active in the children's ministry at the All Nation Church of God In Christ.
Currently she is a stay at home mom who works toward educating her children.
God has uniquely gifted her in the prayer ministry of intercession. She
was trained in the medical field and is a certified nurses assistant, and
earned an A.A. in Liberal Arts from Wayne County Community College in Detroit.
The children
are Jobari (11) who loves creative writing, Omari (9) who wants to become
a preacher, Jelani (7) who loves to express himself through art, Jamil (5)
who loves quoting scriptures, Akili (2) who is full of energy and Anisa
(3 months) who is a gift from the Lord.
Many have wondered out loud, "Why in the world would you move and become
a missionary". They continue to warn of danger in the world, or wasting
all of their education and accomplishments in the mission field. The family
began to watch the news and see that no place in the world is safe without
the Lord. People catch diseases, are car jacked and murdered on a daily
basis in the United States, Europe and Africa. Vincent exclaimed, "We
believe that the "Earth is the Lords and the fullness thereof..."
(Psalm 24:1) Therefore we can count on His protection." He continued,
"Besides I'd rather die having lived than to go through life dead and
without purpose." When asked what made her decide to step out and be
a true missionary Sharon stated, " It was through a year of consecration
that God spoke to us and said, "Go"! We told the Lord that we
wanted to be used by Him and He responded with this mission."
The Mathews Family is excited about the opportunity to go and share the
gospel with those who are not hearing it, minister to broken hearted orphans
whose parents have died of AIDS, and educate people that otherwise would
not receive an education! They say that they could not help, but to say
yes to the Lord.
Jobari added, "I'll miss some of my family and friends, but I know
that this is going to be great". Omari added, "We will meet new
friends and be able to tell other people about the Lord".
The family is preparing to leave the United States by August 2004. They
are seeking support to plant churches that serve the community, called Community
Resource Centers. The vision of the Community Resource Centers is based
on James 2:14-17...
relevant ministry both natural and spiritual. These churches contain worship
sanctuary, schools, feeding programs and AIDS outreach. Vincent stated,
" The financial obligation is vast, but the Lord has assured us that
He will raise up individuals, businesses and churches to support His work,
we simply are the vessels to carry His blessing to His people." We
are confident that every village that receives the benefit of quality spiritual
leadership coupled with education and assistance will grow both naturally
and spiritually! Seven Year Old, Jelani, can best sum up the mission, stating,
"I can't wait to follow in Jesus' footsteps!" Please pray for
this family and support financially as they prepare to step out on God's
word. Husband, Wife and 6 children: The Mathews family on a mission for
Jesus.
